Sources and Methodology

Last reviewed: August 26, 2026

Source order

  1. Local building department, utility, licensing board, or other authority for property-specific rules.
  2. Federal and state regulators and safety agencies, including EPA, CPSC, FEMA, HUD, DOE, and OSHA.
  3. Recognized standards and manufacturer instructions for the exact installed system.
  4. Qualified professional guidance that is clearly attributed and within scope.

What we record

For safety or regulatory claims, we record the source URL, authority, access date, geographic scope, and what the source actually supports. We do not turn a checklist into a permit decision or a general hazard warning into a diagnosis of one home.

Costs, products, and case examples

Costs are labeled by location, date, source, and included scope. Product claims are checked against the exact model and manufacturer documentation. Illustrations are labeled; we do not fabricate completed projects, inspections, test results, before-and-after photos, or homeowner experiences.

Updates

Safety alerts and recalls trigger prompt review. Core guides receive periodic link and source checks. Material corrections are dated and explained through the Corrections Policy.
